As a family-owned and operated business, we always strive to bring you quality foods made from scratch and made to order. If we see you often, we always enjoy chatting with you. We have a warm fire burning in the winter, a beautiful, grassy backyard for summer relaxation, shaded front deck, outdoor heating, and indoor High-Def TVs so we can gather and watch those exciting NEVADA games. History
Owner Steve Mathers opened the doors just after his 23rd birthday on Friday the 13th of December, 1974. It turned out that it was a lucky day—lucky, but not without plenty of hard work, dedicated employees, and many long-time patrons.
The building, built around 1950, was originally a grocery store and meat market (kind of ironic) in what was originally the Italian part of Reno. By the time Steve purchased the building in the early 1980’s, neighborhood groceries were dying out. Instead, Steve had the vision of a cozy bar and deli. He got to work moving out vegetable bins and moving in the deli counter, bar stools, and pool tables. In 1983, Steve added a full kitchen.
Over the decades the Pub has employed many hard-working, dedicated people like Maggie, Mark, Steve O, Pete, Debbie, and Mari to name a few. The Pub has always had close ties to the University of Nevada, Reno. Many of its employees and most of its customers over the years have come from the college and surrounding neighborhood. No business can exist without customers, and the Pub 'N Sub is blessed with the best. Some of you were there that Friday the 13th so many years ago. Our deepest thanks for becoming our extended family and for your continuing patronage!
